Prim. Univ. Prof. Dr. Amir Kurtaran

Prim. Univ. Prof. Dr. Amir Kurtaran completed his specialist training in internal medicine and nuclear medicine at the General Hospital of Vienna and habilitated in nuclear medicine in 1998. His scientific focus includes nuclear medicine diagnostics and therapy, particularly in internal oncology, gastroenterology, urology, and neuroendocrine tumors, as well as the diagnosis and treatment of thyroid diseases. He is also an expert in positron emission tomography (PET) with a focus on oncology, peptide receptor diagnostics in cancer medicine, and medical radiation protection. He is an active member of several international scientific societies and has contributed to the development of medical guidelines as well as numerous research projects. Furthermore, he has received numerous awards, including the Mallinckrodt Research Award and the Erste Bank Research Award. As an inventor, he developed the patented multi-needle biopsy device for thyroid nodules (THYROSAMPLER®), which has been in clinical use since 2005.
