Prof. Dr. med. Steinmetz, an internationally renowned physician, received his clinical and scientific training in internal medicine, endocrinology, diabetology and metabolism at renowned institutions such as the Philipps University of Marburg, the University of Washington in Seattle, USA, the Pasteur Institute in Lille and the Université Sophi Antipolis in Nice, France. He also completed research stays at the Institute of Molecular Genetics at the University of Vienna. With over ten years' experience as a senior physician in these specialist areas and later as head physician of a major internal medicine clinic specializing in diabetology and endocrinology, Prof. Steinmetz established himself as an expert in the field of lipid metabolism. As a Heisenberg Professor, he led pioneering studies on lipid-lowering drugs and for several years served as head of an international working group of the International Federation of Clinical Chemistry (IFCC) on the standardization of the lipoprotein Lp(a). He is now integrating his extensive clinical experience into evidence-based medicine at the Fünf Höfe Internal Medicine Center.
