A medical sensation in Vienna: thanks to two outstanding surgeons, Alfred Kocher and Günter Laufer, in 2022, the AKH performed the first successful aortic valve implantation.

"In this new surgical procedure, the implant is precisely tailored to the patient's anatomy after a CT scan," Professor Kocher explained to The Krona. "This innovative surgical technique developed in England is based entirely on personalized medicine," added Professor Laufer, who heads the AKH Cardiac Surgery Clinic. This is the first time such a surgical procedure has been successfully performed in Austria.
